I have been a member of LJEA since June 1987. My early interest in the lake is based on long fishing trips with my father, sometimes overnight. Our work with water sampling provided objective evidence for our arguments. In the 1990’s we hand-Blantoncarried samples to Asheville in an effort to relocate a sewage treatment plant away from Marion – and we succeeded! Also, we had a significant influence on commercial nursery practices by showing them how fertilizer runoff affected the local waterways. They were overwhelmingly cooperative with our recommendations and, as a result, the water quality improved. If we do not protect the water here, we do not give the folks downstream a chance – it will already be dirty before it reaches them.
